Summer Recap

Hello everyone...I know I know I know...you all thought that I fell off the face of the planet. But rest assured...I am back and will be updating the blog at least twice a month, if not more! :) I know I know...it's hard to contain your excitement...but it is our goal that this blog becomes the place where parents can get the up-to-the-minute instructions on what is going on in the life of the Children's Ministry at FBC Loganville. But for now, let me give you just a few updates as to what's been going on the past several months.

VBS was a huge hit this year with Cosmic City. We had over 500 kids each day for 3 days of fun, excitement, and worship. It was an incredible experience that we have continued to have each Wednesday night during the summer. We have averaged over 100 kids each night...with only 2 more nights remaining! If you want, you can check out some of our pictures on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Loganville-GA/First-Baptist-Church-Loganville/93889498460?ref=nf

Kidz Camp was a great time with 58 kids who just completed 3rd - 5th grade. We went away to Camp Woodland in Temple, GA and had a blast! It wasn't all about fun and games either (though there was A LOT of that going on). The kids were challenged with the idea of how BIG God is! The idea that "God doesn't make JUNK" was one that stuck throughout the week.

As we are wrapping up our Summer and preparing for Fall Kick-Off...I just wanted to let you know a couple of important dates.

July 29th Our VBS wrap up service is at 7:00 PM in the sanctuary where we will SLIME 2 people.

August 2nd Promotion Sunday will take place throughout the morning. We will have a special breakfast for the upcoming 1st graders at 9:00 AM in the gym. For kids going into 2nd - 5th grades, it will be the same schedule as normal, but with a new Sunday school class. You should be receiving a post card with information on it as to who your child's new teacher is and what room they are located in.

August 5th Fall Kick-Off is a fun time for us to register kids for choir as well as Rootz, our Wednesday night activity. Registration will begin at 6:00 and continue until 7:00 with blow-up rides and slides in the gym. We will have workers staffed at the rides beginning at 6:45. Please remain with your child(ren)until that time. It will be a fun and exciting time as we kick off our Fall programming.

As always, if you have any questions whatsoever, please don't hesitate to contact me at: kwages@fbcloganville.org or just click on the "contact" tab at the top of the page.

EASTER

Hey there everyone...I hope that you guys have enjoyed your spring break as much as I did...but as you all know, things are about to get a little crazy! This Sunday is Easter...and I'm sure that everyone has big plans with their families! We are praying and anxiously awaiting the Lord to see who He brings to us this Sunday. I hope and pray we have a big turnout and we are able to CONNECT more people to God and to our church. I just wanted to be one of the first to wish you a Happy Easter and encourage you to invite some of your friends who aren't attending a church to come with you. Easter and Christmas are the 2 times that a lot of people are willing to go...and that could be a great foot in the door to invite them more often.

Also, I just wanted to let you know that this month we are studying CONVICTION - standing up for what is right even when others don't. And our memory verse for the month is 2 Thessalonians 3:13 "Never tire of doing what is right." I would strongly encourage you to try to find ways to implement that in conversations with your kids. If you need help, you can click on the here and you can find downloads for Godtime Cards and Fridge Doors, as well as an explanation for what our Familytime Virtue Packs are. These are really great!!! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call, email, or ask when you see me in the halls! Have a blessed week!!!

Spring Schedules

Hey there everyone...I just wanted to let you know that Mattie and/or I would LOVE to come out and watch your children participate in whatever spring activities the kids are involved in. We love to hit the soccer fields, the baseball fields, the softball fields, the dance recitals...whatever the occasion. So...if you would like for us to show up and support them, we need to know their schedules. Please don't forget to let us know what park they are at as well. Please email me schedules as soon as possible so that we can work out a master schedule to try to work it out to see each and every one at least once. :) If you will simply click on the contact button and send me an email with an attachment of the schedules, that will be great! Thanks so much! And just in case you didn't know it already...we absolutely love your kids!

VBS 2009

Hello everyone! I hope you had a most wonderful weekend. For those of you who were able to come out to our meeting yesterday, thank you. But for those of you who weren't there, I wanted to give you an update about some changes this year at VBS.

In order for us to reach more than just children, we wanted a way to partner with the rest of the family and provide them opportunities to join in on the fun of VBS. In order for us to do that, we as a staff prayed and decided that we should move VBS to a "normal" church time. So, we decided to shorten our VBS week to 3 days (Monday June 8th - Wednesday June 10th). We will continue to run those 3 days like we have in the past. Beginning Wednesday night June 10th, we will continue our VBS experience from 7:00 - 8:00 with the children. This will happen each and every Wednesday night during the summer and concluding on July 29th.

In order to help provide more partnership opportunities for families, we will be providing some strategic classes offered to adults during Wednesday nights. We will have classes designed for parents who are involved in our church as well as those who are not. Also, at the end of each Wednesday night, we will provide some sort of fellowship that is church wide (ice cream social, watermelon social, etc.) so that families can socialize, fellowship, and build lasting relationships with others within the church.

We are very excited about these changes and feel that this fits perfectly within our purpose and many of core values of a church. We hope that you will find a way that you can help serve with us...either during the 3 days, or on Wednesday nights throughout the summer. Questions, please let me know by clicking on the contact button at the top of the page.

Out of Town

Hey there guys...I just wanted to take a minute to update you on a few things.

First of all, I wanted to let everyone know that Mattie and I will NOT be at church this Sunday.  We will be on vacation at Disney World.  If you need anything, please contact Sandy Owens at the church at 770.466.4250 or email her at sowens@fbcloganville.org.

Secondly, I really want to encourage you to take a look at the Kidz Inc. website on the church.  You can check it out by clicking on the link above or you can reach it through navigating through the church website.

Lastly, I want to let you all know that we are in the process of planning and recruiting for VBS this year.  As some of you already know, there are some changes taking place this year.  More information will come at a meeting on Sunday March 22nd in the Kidz Inc. Theater immediately after worship.  This meeting will last no more than 15 minutes!  :)  Please pick up your children and come directly to the Kidz Inc. Theater so that we can inform you of some vital information about VBS this year.  If you have worked VBS in the past, or want to work VBS this year...please make every effort to attend this meeting.

Have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you either next Wednesday or Sunday!

This past Week

Well, this past week sure did have it's wonderful and unforgettable moments.  First of all, having the privilege of baptizing my friend, and a Rootz favorite, Matt Medlin.  This followed by the snow that came down last Sunday was truly from heaven!!!  I know that it probably disrupted many schedules with the kids being out of school...but I had an incredible time.  I would love to hear what you did on Monday when the kids were out of school.

Then today was a wonderful day in Kidz Inc. Theater.  If you didn't make it to church, you truly missed out!  Today's lesson was about Lazarus being raised from the dead and how God is powerful.  The skit today was absolutely hilarious and will be etched in my memory forever.  Marshall (one of our characters) had his goldfish, Lazlo, die.  He, Taylor, and Cammie had a funeral for Lazlo, and as they walked off stage, Grandpa Henry walks in with a new "friend" for Lazlo.  When the bowl was empty, he assumed that Marshall moved Lazlo to a bigger aquarium and put the new friend in the old bowl.  Marshall, Taylor and Cammie return to find a goldfish alive and well in the fish bowl.  They thought that Lazlo had been resurrected.  It didn't take long before Grandpa Henry found out the situation and explained everything.  While it was bad that Lazlo I didn't make it...Lazlo II seems to be doing quite well!

Well, I know that things on the blog aren't completely up and running...but keep checking back soon as more changes are sure to come!  Please feel free to post comments, questions, or concerns OR you can click on the "contact" button and send me an email.  Have a great day and God bless!!!
